Living History with Civi War Soldiers
1st Mississippi Light Artillery Turner’s Battery

Civil War re-enactors camped out with a real cannon on the front lawn of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library! The 1st Mississippi Light Artillery Turner’s Battery conducted drills and showed off an original Union cannon that was used in the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863.

Music of this period played on the Appalachian Mountain dulcimer, banjo-mier and wooden spoons. Audience members also helped dress in period costume and played the some of the instruments!

Mr. Lincoln and Emancipation

In Mr. Lincoln and Emancipation, Chris Small portrayed Abraham Lincoln and discussed his emerging views on slavery and emancipation. There was a morning presentation for schools groups that included Annunciation Catholic School, Sale Elementary, and Cook Elementary grades 2-6. That evening the public was invited for another performance that was truly engaging.
